The Art of Letting Go of Resistance: Grief Workshop in Porto
During a grief workshop in Porto, on our Portugal Grief Trip, I was guided toward a gentle reframe. It loosened the tight grip those emotions had on me, as if releasing the resistance made the emotions themselves less overwhelming.
It was like uncovering a truth I had subconsciously known but never fully embraced: the struggle against emotions often intensifies their hold on us. By ceasing to resist, I was finally able to meet my feelings with a gentle self-compassion that felt both new and deeply needed.
Creating art became a way to feel deeply and express without fear. By the end of the session, I felt lighter, freed not from the emotions themselves but from the exhausting battle against them.
Healing often begins when we stop resisting what naturally arises within us. That's part of what a grief retreat can offer: not answers, but permission.
